Kiln Girth gear spring plates play an important role in the operation of rotary kiln. The spring is a link between kiln shell & girth gear, as rotate the kiln upon driven by pinion. Kiln shell temperature is in excess of 100 ºC (max. around 350 ºC) The spring plate helps to take up the differential expansion of shell and girth gear. The spring plate helps to compensate for the differential expansion. In common language the spring plate acts like a shock absorbing system to counter changes that would otherwise cause problems with the shell or the main gear.
The spring plates gets crack prematurely if improper MOC and mechanical properties are not maintained at manufacturing stage. If kiln operation continued with cracked / repaired spring plates, usually lead to misalignment in girth gear and source of some or other problem in the Gear / Kiln and the repercussion results in considerable loss of production time.
